The Oral Hygiene Tips You Need to Help Your Child’s Teeth and Gums

Posted .

Your child deserves a strong and healthy smile. Unfortunately, that health and strength doesn’t just appear on its own. You have to work for it. This means you need to do things regularly to clean and care for your kid’s teeth and gums. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Chris Roberts, is happy to give you the tips you need. Those tips are:

-Clean their teeth and gums regularly. To do so, it’s best to use a child-sized toothbrush and the appropriate toothpaste to clean their smile every morning and night. If your child is under three years old, it’s best to avoid letting your child use fluoride toothpaste. When it comes to flossing, ask our dental team about the best time to start.

-Don’t let your child go to bed with a bottle or sippy cup of milk. This is recommended because giving your child a beverage other than water at bed can create cavities on your kid’s smile. This is called baby bottle tooth decay. It is a very dangerous and inconvenient dental problem that should be avoided as much as possible.

-Bring them into our office for their checkups. It’s best to bring them into our office every six months so we can treat and examine their teeth and gums. These appointments can also give us the opportunity to give you specific oral hygiene tips you need to care for your kid’s smile.
